This is where I let things roll around inside my hear they just move down my arms and into my fingers and the words wind up on the page. Things have been mighty quiet around here (on the blog) but that hasn’t been the case anywhere else. Lots of STUFF to do and lots of STUFF getting done.

This is a good thing.

However, I was at a seminar recently and the person leading the seminar was talking about how necessary it is today for everyone to have a web site (or rather a web-presence) and when someone mentioned a blog what was funny was how he commented to the person that a blog needs regular updating and it is far too much work, all that content that has to go up each and every day to drive traffic and draw interest.

Still here I am 7 years later and I’m still blogging.

SEVEN YEARS! Think about that for a second if you will. Yet, it’s true I started writing on this thing way, way back in 2003 and I don’t have any clearer an idea today of where I’m going with it (the blog) than I did the day I started it other than I would use it to force myself to write. My first entry was on March 15th 2003. The rub of course is that I actually sometime am complimented... 

You can go back and look at that first entry on the blog. Life was sure really different back then! There’s been a lot of loss over the years, people who aren’t around and there has also been some big sturm and drang too over that timeframe.

In a few short weeks, I’ll be coming up on 18 years of writing on this thing.

My writing has gotten better so there’s that.

Blogs aren’t really in fashion so much anymore and the thing that occupies people more these days when they interact online are places like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and other social media platforms.

I limit my presence in the online world. Very few people know about the blog and even fewer read it which is something of a good thing in some ways.

MySpace was just taking off when I started the blog and where is MySpace now?

The biggest lesson people should take away over the last decade is something I learned very early on, something I leaned way back when I first started using the web with Mosaic...

That was the internet when I started out if you can believe it and there weren’t animations or video it was just text heavy and that was all.

Yet, it was a much smaller community and the other thing was that it was FOREVER.

Social media is the bane of people’s lives today. It gives folks a false sense of intimacy and plays into people’s need for attention. More often than not though that backfires with dire ramifications. I’m sure lots of what I write on the blog is offensive to many but I do write it with the caveat that I know I’m not right all the time and quite frankly I’m something of an idiot most of the time.

18 years though is something... even I can hardly believe it. It may be the one thing I’ve managed to stick with in a lifetime of change.
